The North San Joaquin Water Conservation District (NSJWCD) obtained grant funding from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation under the WaterSMART program to implement an in-lieu groundwater recharge. The intent of the project is to allow the NSJWCD to divert surface water to local growers in the north-west region of the District to allow in-lieu groundwater recharge, by reducing local reliance on surface water during wet years. Since Tracy Lake will be filled during periods where it has historically been dry, this project also has an incidental direct recharge element. KSN has been the civil design engineer on the project responsible for designing the pump station and conveyance pipeline. The diversion pump station has been designed with a fish screen and wet-well structure capable of being expanded to divert up to 40 cfs using two vertical turbine mixed flow pumps.
