The fast track San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency’s (SJAFCA) Flood Protection Restoration Project (FPRP) was an extensive engineering effort to improve over 52 miles of levees, modify 25 bridges and build associated flood control structures.  As one of four civil firms on the project design team, Kjeldsen, Sinnock & Neudeck, Inc. actively participated in all aspects of the project’s development including being responsible for the design of the project’s 2 Detention Basins.  The Detention Basins provide a combined total of 500 acre feet of off-stream storage for high runoff events.  The project included the construction of underground piping, articulated mat spillways and pump stations.  More than 1.5 million cubic yards of material was removed from the two basins, which then served as fill for the levee improvement portion of the project.  Basin No. 1 was designed in manner as to ultimately be used as a regional soccer facility.  Care was taken during the design of the facility to incorporate features and design recommendations set forth by the Soccer Association.
