Junior Civil Engineer

Job Type: Full Time
Location: West Sacramento, CA; Stockton, CA
Minimum Experience: Preferred: Two years of relevant and increasingly responsible design engineering related experience+
Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
Required Licensure: Engineer in Training Certificate; California Drivers License


 

General Description of Position

The Junior Civil Engineer provides research, design, calculation, project coordination and CAD support to the Project Manager, Project Engineer and Project Surveyor. Assignments generally may include, but are not limited to, the preparation of design calculations, cost estimates, quantity calculations, CAD drawings, specifications, maps, plats, exhibits, descriptions, local agency application packages, letters, project memoranda and reports under the direct supervision of a Project Manager, Project Engineer or Project Surveyor.  Position requires good verbal and written communication skills.  Position requires contact with firm’s clients and local public agency personnel..

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform routine engineering design and surveying assignments under the direction of a Project Manager, Project Engineer, or Project Surveyor.
  • Prepare and format improvement plans, profiles, cross-sections, and details for various project types, including:
    • Flood control
    • Site improvement
    • Grading and drainage
    • Street improvements
    • Water supply, treatment, and distribution
    • Wastewater collection and treatment
    • Storm drainage collection and pump stations
Technical Skills and Experience
  • Competent in:
    • Site and public works improvement plans and specifications
    • Opinions of probable costs and grading balance calculations
    • Quantity and hydraulic calculations
    • Regulatory permitting processes and utility research
    • Public contract requirements and survey control
    • Federal, state, and local agency design and mapping standards
  • Proficient in software including:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
    • AutoCAD 3D
    • Hydraulic design software
Communication & Organizational Skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, clients, and the public on technical matters
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to logically and methodically execute project assignments
  • Clearly and legibly document research, calculations, communications, reports, and estimates
Project Management & Compliance
  • Understand and implement company standards and procedures, including:
    • CAD standards
    • File naming conventions
    • Plan/map formatting requirements
  • Maintain awareness of project budgets, scopes, and schedules for all assignments
  • Estimate required staff time for tasks and make efforts to meet or exceed client commitments
Supervisory & Proposal Assistance
  • Periodically supervise and review the work of administrative, survey, and technical support staff
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including scope, schedule, and budget
  • Manage smaller assigned projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence

Compensation

Compensation package commensurate with experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range is $70,000-$80,000 per year.

The position of Junior Civil Engineer is an exempt position.

The direct labor utilization rate for the Junior Civil Engineer position is expected to be a minimum of 85%.
